Pediatric Emergency Care
Pediatric hospitals have specialized pediatric emergency departments equipped to handle emergencies and urgent medical situations. They have pediatric-trained healthcare professionals who are experienced in managing critical conditions and injuries in children.
Why choose us as your child's pediatricians?
Children pose a unique challenge for out-of-hospital care providers, despite accounting for a small percentage of pre-hospital emergencies. The emotional stress and anxiety they experience require special attention. It is crucial to recognize that children are not merely “small adults” as their anatomy and physiology, including the airway, breathing, circulation, muscles, and skeleton, differ significantly. The proximity of internal organs in children increases their vulnerability to traumatic injuries. Additionally, the reactions and capabilities of children vary based on their developmental stages (infants, toddlers, pre-school age, school age, and adolescents) and life experiences. At Kiaan Children’s Hospital, we understand and address these unique considerations to provide optimal care for children in emergency situations.
Children are unique and require specialized expertise to meet their distinct needs. They experience different health issues, have different physiology, stress response, and require treatment approaches specifically tailored for them, separate from adults.
Pediatric Emergency Medical Services (PEMS) play a critical role in providing immediate, out-of-hospital medical care for various serious emergencies affecting children. These emergencies include life-threatening allergic reactions, drug or chemical poisoning, venomous snake bites, accidents resulting in bone or skull fractures, brain injuries, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, febrile seizures, drug overdose, burns, shocks, and cases of child abuse. PEMS also involve transporting patients to appropriate care facilities. However, existing literature suggests that emergency medical services are primarily designed to cater to adult emergencies, often overlooking the specialized care children require. Due to the limited availability of literature on this subject and the lack of emphasis on child care during emergencies, it is essential to evaluate the shortcomings of PEMS and draw attention to necessary improvements. At Kiaan Children’s Hospital, we prioritize pediatric emergency care and strive to bridge these gaps to ensure the best possible outcomes for children in critical situations.
